Fix, Cowboys Head to Fargo for Junior Nationals
July 13, 2018 | Cowboy Wrestling
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestling freshman Daton Fix will participate in a special wrestle-off for a Junior World Team spot, while a host of incoming Cowboys will compete at the U.S. Marines Junior Nationals at the Fargodome this Sunday.
Â
Fix will match up with this year's Junior World Team Trials champion Brandon Courtney in a best-of-three series for the spot beginning at 4:30 p.m. CT on Sunday. Â Athletes will weigh in on Sunday, two hours before the best-of-three series begins.
Â
The provision of the Junior Men's World Team Trials procedures which allowed Fix to request a special wrestle-off for the Junior World Team follows:
"A delay in a final wrestle-off may occur if a 2016 or 2017 Junior FS World Team Member places in the top 3 at the 2018 U.S. Senior Freestyle Open and then competes in the 2018 U.S. Senior Freestyle World Team Trials Challenge Tournament or the 2018 U.S. Senior Freestyle Final X series. The 2016 or 2017 Junior FS World Team Members, who place in the top 3 at the 2018 U.S. Senior Freestyle Open can only be granted the wrestle-off at the same weight in which they competed at during the 2018 U.S. Senior Freestyle Open."
Â
The Cowboy freshman is looking to make his third-straight Junior World Team and defend his 57kg gold medal won at last year's Junior World Championships. Fix defeated Courtney at last year's Junior World Team Trials in the best-of-three final series, outscoring the Arizona State Sun Devil, 27-4, in two matches with both coming by technical fall.
Â
Along with Fix, a number of incoming Cowboys are set to battle it out at Junior Nationals, including likely appearances by Conner Wilson, Jalin Harper, Gavin Stika, Colt Denney and Travis Wittlake.
