#FinalX: Fix Heads to Lincoln to Vie for World Team Spot

Fix will face off with former Iowa Hawkeye Thomas Gilman in a best-of-three series to determine the World Team starter at 57kg. The bouts will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.org Saturday evening at 6 p.m. CT.

"While I don't think that Fix's ability to turn people is any news to anyone, most of us expected to see Fix's patented leg-in trap-arm gut. While we did see him attempt it as much as advertised, what was frightening (for opponents) was how well he abandoned the trap arm and went to a straight low gut when his opponent tried to defend the trap arm by putting their left arm all the way up in front of them…Another thing that we saw a bit more of in the World Team Trials from Fix was a left-handed underhook. More times than not, Fix is more than willing to allow guys to shoot an underhook to his left side because he's always got his inside trip in his back pocket. Against Ramos in the WTT finals, it was Fix shooting the underhooks and pushing around Ramos."

"I spoke with Derek Fix and Nick Piccininni — who obviously knows Thomas Gilman pretty well — has been the guy working with Daton and prepping him through this whole process. Nick will travel to Lincoln with Daton to work out with him and warm him up."
The Friday before last they brought in Nico Megaludis, who beat Gilman for an NCAA title a few years ago, to work out with Daton as well as Olympic gold medalist Henry Cejudo and Olympian Sam Hazewinkel in last week to help with the prep. Daton's definitely got some solid work in to build up for this."

"Having only just finished his true-freshman season in college, Daton Fix is showing that he is a force to be reckoned with on the Senior level for years to come."
Fix has proved himself on the World stage at the Cadet and Junior levels, earning a 2017 Junior World gold medal, a 2016 Junior World bronze medal and a 2015 Cadet World bronze medal. Additionally, Fix represented the U.S. at the 2014 Cadet World Championships and the 2017 U23 World Championships."
In his 2017 Junior World title run, Fix dominated one of the toughest tournaments on earth, winning all five matches by tech fall to outscore his opponents, 53-1, collectively."
In his first freestyle event since U23 Worlds last November, Fix had an impressive run to the 2018 U.S. Senior Open finals, where he met up with NCAA champion from Iowa and two-time World Team member Tony Ramos. An even-matched bout, Ramos walked with a 2-2 win on criteria, thanks to a late takedown, and earned an automatic bid to the best-of-three finals World Team Trials Challenge Tournament in Rochester."
