May 04, 2018 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Oklahoma State track and field athletes earned 23 season-best marks and seven event titles to conclude regular-season competition at a familiar John McDonnell Field on Friday.
In the first track event of the evening, the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Logan Daily, Tyler Jackson, Kurtis Cotton and Jacob Fincham-Dukes edged its season-best time, earning a first-place finish in 41.18.
Thirty minutes later, a pair of season-best times came out of the women's 100-meter dash. Sprinters Lexie Lewis and Emily Smith clocked a 12.21 and 13.34, respectively, to earn their best marks of 2018.
On the men's side of the 100 meters, the Cowboys saw two fast times from Malik Givens and Logan Daily. Givens sprinted his way to a 10.70 (+0.5) in his opening run of the outdoor season, while Daily topped his best in 2018 outdoors with his finish in 10.79 (+0.5).
In the women's 200 meters, Jordan Rockins began to find her form, running her best time of the outdoor season at 26.29. Not long after in the men's event, Kwame Donyinah would also see improvement on his 2018 best, running a 22.00 (+0.5).
The women's 800 meters produced three separate season bests, coming in the form of Jennifer Celis, Abbie Hetherington and Danielle Coleman. With former Cowgirl Clara Nichols on rabbit duty, Celis took second in 2:08.23, while Hetherington earned third in 2:08.49 and Coleman sixth with her 2:10.89.
Bradley Johnson and Eugene Grayson would follow suit, earning two season-best times of their own on the men's side of the 800 meters. Johnson would run it in 1:51.81, while Grayson would cross the line in 1:54.40.
Sophomore Cowgirl Anna Gunter would break the five-minute barrier for the first time in 2018. In the 1,500 meters, she clocked a time of 4:52.64 for her best time since coming to OSU. For the men's 1,500 meters, five Cowboys would earn season-best times – Kevin Mulcaire, Garrett Calhoun, Dustan Davidson, Alec Haines and Nick Kenville.
Hailing from Togher, Ireland, newcomer Emily Rogers took first in her premiere event, the high jump. Rogers cleared 1.71m/5-7.25 for her best mark since arriving in Stillwater, which improves her No. 5 height in school history.
Also finding her stride, jumper Ryan Roane would crack the 12-meter mark in the triple jump, this time clearing 12.10m/39-8.5 for her best in a Cowgirl uniform.
Shortly after, Calahan Newsome showed why he's the top hurdler for the Cowboys, going 52.30 to improve his mark for the third time in the outdoor season.
Finally, sophomore Elaina Noll produced two season-best marks to wrap up the Arkansas Twilight. She shaved a full second off her 100-meter hurdle time in 18.78 (-0.6) and nearly a full second off her 200-meter mark in 30.97 (+0.1).
The Big 12's best await Dave Smith's track and field squads next weekend in Waco, Texas. The 2018 Big 12 Championships will begin Friday and run through Sunday to ultimately decide the best in the conference.
