NCAA DeLand Regional Bracket
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is the No. 3 seed at the 2018 NCAA DeLand Regional, with the four-team, double-elimination tournament field also including host and top-seeded Stetson, second-seeded South Florida and fourth-seeded Hartford, it was announced today by the NCAA Selection Committee.
The NCAA DeLand Regional opens play Friday at 12 p.m. (CST) with the Cowboys facing USF (35-20-1) at Melching Field. The second game pits Stetson (45-11) vs. Hartford (26-29) at 6 p.m. (CST). The Saturday and Sunday game times will be the same, with the loser's bracket game played at 12 p.m. and the winner's bracket teams squaring off at 6 p.m. A time for Monday's if-necessary game has not been announced.
OSU brings a 29-24-1 record into the NCAA tourney. The Cowboys finished second in the Big 12 Conference standings with a 16-8 mark, just one game shy of league champion Texas.
The 2018 NCAA Regional appearance will mark the sixth in a row for the Cowboys, and OSU is making its 44th NCAA Tournament appearance, a total that ranks fourth all time. OSU owns an all-time NCAA tourney record of 147-93 (.613), with the 147 wins ranking sixth in NCAA history.
"It's very exciting – as an adult it's kind of like going back to when you're a kid on Christmas morning and waiting to see what Santa Claus brought you," said OSU head coach Josh Holliday. "For this team in particular, this is a fantastic accomplishment considering where we were at times. The uphill climb that our kids faced, their response to that and their body of work and effort is to be commended. I'm really proud of them, and I'm excited for our team and our program and the fans who have invested so much in us.
"Now it's a matter of going and playing good baseball because it will take high-level execution of the game in order to be successful. It's an opportunity and one that we're grateful to have and one that we're gonna prepare like crazy for and go get after it."
The 2018 Regional berth is the sixth in as many seasons under Holliday, and OSU is 13-10 in NCAA Tournament play under his direction. The Cowboys have made three NCAA Regional finals appearances and earned two Super Regional berths, and in 2016, Holliday led his alma mater to the 20th College World Series in program history.
The Cowboys have now been a No. 3 seed under Holliday three times (2013, 2017 and 2018). OSU was a top-seed and regional host in 2014 and 2015, while garnering a No. 2 seed in 2016.
OSU is seeking to advance to the fifth NCAA Super Regional in program history (1999, 2007, 2014, 2016). Should the Cowboys win the DeLand Regional, they will face the winner of the NCAA Chapel Hill (North Carolina) Regional in a Super Regional.
