STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's golf team remained in second place after Sunday's third round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships at Karsten Creek.
Â
"It looked like we had a really good round going at the turn so we let a really good round get away, but we're still in good position," head coach Alan Bratton said. "We'll go iron that stuff out. I like where we're sitting in the overall score. The goal is to try to get a little bit better every day, and I think we shot the same score we did yesterday. I like where we're at. We'll just keep building momentum and get ready for another round tomorrow."
Â
For the second-straight day, the Cowboys fired a 3-under 285 to get to 7-under on the weekend. OSU sits three shots behind first-place Duke, who turned in a course record 12-under 276 to jump three spots into the lead at 10-under par. Texas Tech is the only other team below par for the tournament at 3-under and occupy the third spot on the team leaderboard.
Â
Cowboys Viktor Hovland, Matthew Wolff and Austin Eckroat are each under par after 54 holes and are currently in the top 15 of the individual race.
Â
Hovland led the way for OSU on Sunday, dropping six birdies on the way to a 4-under 68 that was the lowest round for any Cowboy so far this weekend. He ends his day tied for seventh overall at 4-under and five shots back of individual leader Bryson Nimmer of Clemson.
Â
Freshmen Wolff and Eckroat are both tied at 11th individually with a 3-under 54-hole total. Wolff carded a 3-under 69 after playing a consistent round in which he sank five birdies to only two bogeys. Eckroat shot an even 72 to preserve his 3-under total for the weekend.
Â
"I feel really good," Wolff said. "Our team played pretty solid. I'd say today was definitely the hardest day. Pins were tucked in some corners and the wind picked up a little. I was pretty happy with how I played. I stayed really solid. I knew a good score out here would probably be even par considering it was playing a little harder. I just knew if I stuck to my gameplan and stayed solid that it would work out in the end.
Â
"As a team, I feel really good about it. You stick us out here on this course four days in a row we're bound to have a really good round. We haven't yet, but we just need to stick to what we know."
Â
Kristoffer Ventura shot a 4-over 76 to move to 9-over on the tournament, while Zach Bauchou turned in a 77 to move to 7-over.

Paired with Texas Tech and Duke, the Cowboys will tee off from the first hole for the final round of stroke play at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday.
