Day Two Results
WACO, Texas — The Oklahoma State track and field program produced five more All-Big 12 honors on the second day of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Â
Mace Metcalf was the first to score on day two for the Cowboys, as he finished eighth in the decathlon. After pulling back from tenth in the final two events, Metcalf finished with 6,192 points and his first All-Big 12 honor since coming to OSU.
Â
The majority of the conference nods came from the final event of the day, the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Christian Liddell crossed the line in third in 9:14.13.
Â
Freshmen Bryce Quigley and Owen Krewson also scored in the event, earning seventh and eighth, respectively. Altogether, the three Cowboys produced nine team points.
Â
Cowgirl freshman Cheyenne Walden showed her prowess on the women's side of the 3,000-meter steeple. Her time of 10:28.95 earned her her first All-Big 12 honor, a sixth-place finish and the No. 8 time in Cowgirl history in the event.
Â
Another newcomer, Megan Mann, finished out her first outdoor season as a Cowgirl with a 10th-place finish in the heptathlon. Her 4,514 points was enough to push her into second all-time in school history behind Tihana Sarac in 2008.
Â
In terms of qualifying, eight athletes made sufficient marks to live on to see day three of the prestigious competition.
Â
The majority of qualifiers came from the 1,500 meters, with three Cowboys and two Cowgirls qualifying in the event.
Â
Newcomer Ashenafi Hatte took third in his heat for an automatic bid into the finals. Garrett Calhoun and Alec Haines got in on times, running a nearly identical 3:53.77 and 3:54, respectively.
Â
On the women's side, Ariane Ballner and Molly Sughroue auto-qualified, crossing the line in identical 4:29.30 marks. Ballner and Sughroue are both looking for their first outdoor all-conference honors.
Â
Sticking with middle distance, the women's 800 meters provided two more finalists for day three in Sinclaire Johnson and Kaylee Dodd. Johnson earned a 2:07.36 to qualify, while Kaylee Dodd went 2:07.54 to earn a spot. Dodd finished as a runner-up to teammate Savannah Camacho in the event in last season's Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
Â
The final qualifier came in the form of Calahan Newsome. Newsome continues to improve in the 400-meter hurdles, earning ninth overall in 52.91.
Â
After day two, the men's squad sits in sixth overall with 23 points, while the Cowgirls are slotted in ninth with 10 points.
Â
The final day of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships resumes at 2:30 p.m. CT with Cowgirl Emily Rogers and the women's high jump.
