Trevor Boone & Carson Teel
Cowboy Baseball Duo Recognized As Best In Big 12
April 09, 2018 | Cowboy Baseball
IRVING, Texas – For the second-straight week, Oklahoma State collected a pair of weekly award winners from the Big 12 Conference as Carson Teel was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and Trevor Boone was honored as the Big 12 Co-Player of the Week, it was announced by the league office today.
The efforts of Boone and Teel helped OSU clinch its second consecutive Big 12 series win with two victories at Kansas State as the Cowboys extended their conference winning streak to five games, their longest in Big 12 play since 2015.
Teel's complete game performance Sunday against K-State helped OSU clinch a series win over the Wildcats. The complete game was the first of the junior southpaw's career and the first by a Cowboy pitcher this season; it marked Teel's career-long outing, topping his previous high of 7 1/3 innings earlier this season at Arizona State, which came in a relief effort.
Making just his fourth start of the year (and 13th appearance), Teel allowed only six hits, all singles, and racked up nine strikeouts, one shy of his career high. The lone run he gave up came in the first inning as he held the Wildcats scoreless over the final eight frames in a 142-pitch effort.
With the win, Teel improved to 4-1 on the season and lowered his ERA to 2.49, which ranks as the second lowest in the league. He also ranks fourth in the conference in strikeouts (52), fifth in innings pitched (47.0) and sixth in opponent batting average (.213).
Boone, who shares player of the week honors with West Virginia's Marques Inman, was the Big 12's top hitter last week as the sophomore outfielder hit .583 (7-for-12) in three games. Boone's week included two doubles, a home run and three RBIs as he collected 12 total bases and posted a 1.000 slugging percentage.
Boone recorded multiple hits in all three games, including tying his career high with three hits in the series opener at Kansas State. In doing so, he also extended his current hitting streak to eight games, the longest of his career and tied for the longest by a Cowboy this season.
The hot hitting saw Boone raise his batting average 45 points to .286. He also ranks second in the league with a .419 batting average in Big 12 games.
