MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Oklahoma State's Jon Littell has been named the NCBWA National Hitter of the Week for the period of March 26-April 1, it was announced today by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Littell's offensive prowess helped the Cowboys to a 4-0 week that saw them claim a road win at Oklahoma before posting OSU's first-ever, three-game Big 12 Conference series sweep of TCU. The senior outfielder was 9-for-15 (.600) at the plate in the four games with three doubles, two triples and four RBIs. He also scored nine runs, drew five walks, stole a base and turned in a 1.067 slugging percentage. Earlier this week, he was named the Big 12 Player of the Week.
In leading the Cowboys to a sweep of 18th-ranked TCU, Littell lit up a pitching staff that entered the weekend as the Big 12 leader in ERA as he went 8-for-11 (.727) with three doubles, a pair of triples and four RBIs. He scored nine runs and collected 15 total bases and a 1.364 slugging percentage. In the series opener he tied a career high with four hits and four runs as he went 4-for-4. In the final two games, he had two hits and two RBIs in each contest.
Littell hit safely in all four games during the week to extend his hitting streak to eight games, and he raised his season batting average 62 points to .283.
