Flowers, Ateman Selections Round Out NFL Draft for OSU

STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State safety Tre Flowers and wide receiver Marcell Ateman were selected in the NFL Draft Saturday, with Flowers going to the Seattle Seahawks with the 146th overall pick in the fifth round and Ateman going to the Oakland Raiders with the 228th overall pick in the seventh round.
Those picks marked the third and fourth for the Cowboys in this year's draft, matching the school record for most players taken in one year in the draft's current seven-round format. It is also the 10th time in school history and the first time since 2010 that at least four Cowboys have had their names called in one draft.
Additionally, OSU now has 123 players in history who have been selected in an NFL draft, and 25 players who have been drafted during the Mike Gundy era.
Flowers' selection made it five straight years that a Cowboy defensive player has been drafted, and his pick marked OSU's fourth defensive back chosen since 2012.
OSU's leading tackler with 79 total stops last season, Flowers was named a second-team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association. He was also named a first-team All-Big 12 honoree by the league's coaches, finishing the season with two interceptions and 10 passes defended.
Flowers was also voted a team captain by his teammates and received the Leslie O'Neal Award presented by the OSU coaches to the team's outstanding defensive player.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Ateman is a big-bodied receiver who emerged as one of the nation's most dangerous receivers in 2017.
Earning all-conference recognition on the field and in the classroom last year, Ateman ranked second on the Cowboy roster with 59 receptions, 1,156 receiving yards and eight receiving touchdowns.
Ateman ranked second in the country (behind only Biletnikoff Award-winning teammate James Washington) by averaging 19.59 yards per reception last season and was the Cowboys' top target in crucial situations, especially on third and fourth down.
Washington was drafted Friday night in the second round, as Oklahoma State was one of six schools nationally to have two wide receivers drafted in 2018.
