Washington Selected By Steelers In Second Round of NFL Draft
April 27, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 60th overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft Friday, becoming the Cowboys' eighth player selected in the first two rounds of the draft since 2009.
Additionally, Washington becomes the 120th player in Oklahoma State history to be selected in the NFL Draft, and the 30th Cowboy to be selected in the first two rounds.
Washington also becomes the 22nd draft pick under Mike Gundy and the ninth Cowboy taken in the first two rounds in the Gundy era.
His selection marks the latest in a tradition of success for OSU wide receivers in the NFL draft, as he joins Justin Blackmon (2012), Dez Bryant (2010), Rashaun Woods (2004) and Hart Lee Dykes (1989) as early-round picks at the position.
A native of Stamford, Texas, Washington finished his career as one of the best and most productive receivers in Oklahoma State history and in the history of the Big 12 Conference.
His 4,472 career receiving yards set a new school record and ranked second in Big 12 history, while his career totals of 4,472 receiving yards and 39 receiving touchdowns both led all FBS players active in 2017. He also joins Rashaun Woods as the only two players in Oklahoma State history with three seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards.
In 2017, Washington wrapped his career by winning the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's best wide receiver while being selected as a unanimous first team All-American. He finished last season with a national-best 1,549 receiving yards and 119.2 receiving yards per game, while his 13 receiving touchdowns ranked fourth in the country. He also led the nation last year with 19 catches of 30 yards or longer, 11 catches of 40 yards or longer and eight catches of 50 yards or longer.
