Cowboys Third After Day One At Big 12 Championship

Day 1 Results
TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted a 36-hole total of 574 at the Big 12 Championship on Monday to stand in third place at the halfway point of the event at Southern Hills Country Club.
After opening with a 295, the Cowboys bounced back during their second round with a 1-under 279 to climb two spots into their current position at the par-70, 7,158-yard layout. OSU's 14-over tally put them three shots behind Oklahoma and five strokes off the pace of tournament leader Iowa State's 569 total.
OSU's Viktor Hovland was the lone player in the field to finish the day under par, carding rounds of 73 and 66 to stand at 1-under 139 and one shot clear of the field. Hovland's 4-under score during the afternoon round vaulted him 12 spots into the top position.
During his second round, the sophomore bogeyed the 11th before holing a shot from the fairway for an eagle at the par-4 12th He moved back to 1-over for the round with bogeys at Nos. 13 and 14 before posting birdies on three of his final four holes on his initial nine to turn at 2-under 33.
Hovland's second nine was bogey-free and included birdies at the fifth and sixth for another side of 2-under 33.
Senior Kristoffer Ventura joined Hovland in the top 10, posting rounds of 71 and 72 to stand at 143 and tied for eighth place.
Matthew Wolff rose 16 spots during his second round into a tie for 14th place after carding a 69. The freshman followed an opening 76 with his 1-under second round to move up the leaderboard with his 145 total.
Junior Zach Bauchou carded rounds of 75 and 73 to stand in a tie for 31st at 148, while senior Sam Stevens was also among the group tied for 31st place after posting rounds of 76 and 72.
The Cowboys will begin their third round tomorrow morning at 8:22 and will be grouped with Texas.
