OSU Track and Field Impresses in Loaded Weekend
April 21, 2018 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State track and field squads earned six OSU all-time top-10 marks among the NCAA's best on an action-packed weekend in Norman, Texas and California.
In Waco, Texas at the Michael Johnson Invitational, sprinters Amira Coleman and Latriceia Smith cracked the school's top-10 list in the 400 meters. Coleman ran a blazing 54.82 for No. 4 in school history, while Smith earned No. 9 in OSU all-time in 56.03.
In Norman at the John Jacobs Invitational, Blake Scott continued his hot streak since transferring from Texas. Scott moved up to a tie for fifth in OSU all-time in the pole vault, clearing a height of 5.07m/16-7.5 on his first attempt.
Megan Harris took fourth in a stacked 200-meter field in Waco, Texas. Harris ran a wind-aided 24.35, improving on her No. 5 mark in school history.
In Palo Alto, California, Christian Liddell cracked the all-time top-10 in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Liddell took second in the event in 8:54.27, earning him the No. 9 mark in the OSU record books.
The women's 4x400-meter quartet of Amira Coleman, Danielle Coleman, Stephanie Ferrante and Ambra Wesley ran another blazing relay in 3:39.00, improving on their already second-fastest time in school history. The group is less than two seconds off the school record of 3:37.44 set in 1997.
Essex, England native Kaylee Dodd also picked up a big mark for the Cowgirls in California, running 2:06.11 in the invitational section of the women's 800 meters at the Cardinal Classic. Dodd's time slots her at sixth in the West region and is poised to qualify her for the West Regionals next month.
Not to be outdone, Sinclaire Johnson posted an impressive 4:20.37 in the women's 1,500 meters at the Cardinal Classic. The mark slots her at No. 15 in the West region, which would also qualify her for Sacramento in May.
Sprint standout Brandon Singleton ran the first sub-48 second 400 meters of the season for the Cowboys, finishing first in his heat in 47.51.
Finally, Calahan Newsome and Elissa White earned personal-best marks on Saturday. Newsome earned his best mark in a Cowboy uniform in the 400-meter hurdles, running 52.44 in Waco, Texas. White cleared 3.70m/12-1.5 in the women's pole vault to earn a personal-best height.
The Cowboys will run one final event tonight at approximately 10:15 p.m. CT, as Sylvester Barus is set to run the 10,000 meters at the Cardinal Classic. An updated recap will be posted on okstate.com tomorrow morning with his results included.
Dave Smith's squads have two regular-season meets remaining before the outdoor postseason gets underway, with both weekends taking place in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
