Cowboy Football Starts Second Week of Spring Practice
April 02, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team began its second week of spring practice Monday afternoon, wrapping up a two-hour practice session at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center.
After practice, which marked the fourth practice of the spring, coach Mike Gundy met with okstate.com to give an update on the team's status. Some of his comments:
Coach Mike Gundy
On practice:
"I think last week was really good. Today was even better. It's nice to be in pads two days in a row – 'real football' as I call it. Our effort's great. We've got a lot of young players out here. That's what spring ball is for. I know that when I look out with the offense, with the exception of the wide outs and the running backs, there's not anybody on the field that's ever played college football before, so we've got a long ways to go. I like where the defense is at. I think they're learning Coach Knowles' system. Their aggressiveness makes me feel good about the future. We've got a long ways to go, but we're getting there."
On Greg Richmond:
"Greg is an Oklahoma State guy. Most of the fans are very familiar with him and his history. He'll bring a lot of enthusiasm to the defensive unit. There's four guys down there and I've always felt like we needed two coaches, and Joe Bob's (Clements) got a lot of experience and Greg can work with him and make our defensive line much better."
On what he wants to see the rest of the week:
"Just the same thing. We've got a couple more days of installation. Competition is really good. The young players are getting a little better each day. Being able to identify mistakes one day and correcting some of those for the next day is really important to the future."
