Cowboy Football Wraps Up 10th Practice of the Spring

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team held its 10th practice of the spring Monday afternoon at the Sherman E. Smith Training Center, wrapping up two-thirds of the 15 scheduled workouts during the spring period.
After practice coach Mike Gundy met with okstate.com to give an update on the team. Some of his comments:

On his takeaways from Friday's scrimmage heading into today:
"I thought we had really good effort. It was good for a head coach because there were times the defense made plays and then there were times the offense made plays. We were sound with the football and we didn't have any turnovers and the penalties were kept to a minimum. For a head coach, I thought it turned out about as good as possible."
On practicing different game situations:
"We have a number of young players that haven't competed much in a game situation, but they've been in a lot of practices. We feel like it's important to put them in those situations. We can never get them enough work."
On Taylor Cornelius:
"It's always interesting to see how a quarterback reacts if you're the guy that goes out with the first team in practice. I'm very pleased with where we're at with Taylor. He understands our offense. We do have an advantage in, he's been here a number of years, so essentially the playbook is open with him. It's different than when you're competing with a young quarterback, you have to minimize different play selections. So that's an exciting side. He can kind of bring along some of the young wide receivers and our offensive line. Those guys need a lot of work, but Taylor has handled the offense very well up to this point."
On what he wants to see in the next scrimmage:
"Really everything is the same. I want to see us take care of the ball. The defense is doing a good job of trying to force turnovers, but I'd like to see the offense stress no turnovers and would like to continue with a minimal number of penalties, meaning we're playing the game the right way and we're not giving up cheap yards to the other team."
