STILLWATER – Wichita State scored eight runs over the final two innings to snap Oklahoma State's three-game winning streak Tuesday night as the 20th-ranked Shockers handed the Cowboys a 10-7 loss at Allie P. Reynolds Stadium.
The loss was OSU's second to Wichita State in the last six days as the Cowboys fell to 18-12-1 on the season; WSU is now 23-7.
Matt Kroon and Christian Funk both homered for the Pokes in the losing effort, while Kroon and Jon Littell each collected two hits.
Reza Aleaziz took the loss on the mound to fall to 2-1 as the right-hander surrendered five runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning.
OSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three innings, plating a run on a sacrifice fly by Michael Neustifter in the first inning before adding a run in the third when Colin Simpson stole third before scoring on a throwing error on the play.
Ben Leeper kept the Shockers off the scoreboard over the first three innings and racked up a career-high six strikeouts along the way, but the visitors would tie the score with a pair of runs off the righty in the fourth.
The Cowboys took control of the game in the middle innings, retaking the lead in the fifth on Kroon's solo homer to center field, his fourth round tripper of the season.
OSU extended its lead with two runs in both the sixth and seventh innings. Funk led off the sixth with his third homer of the season, and an RBI single by Jake Taylor later in the inning made the score 5-2. In the seventh, the Cowboys pushed their advantage to 7-2 when they scored a pair of runs on a throwing error by WSU third baseman Alec Bohm.
The Shockers trimmed their deficit to 7-5 in the eighth, taking advantage of a pair of walks and an error to score three runs on just one hit.
WSU sealed the Cowboys' fate in the ninth. With two outs and a runner on first, three-straight singles brought home two runs and tied the score at 7-7. Gunnar Troutwine then stepped to the plate and smacked a three-run home run to left field to put the Shockers on top.
The Cowboys were retired in order in the ninth by WSU closer Chandler Sanburn, who earned his sixth save.
OSU returns to Big 12 Conference action, where the Cowboys have won six-straight games, Friday night against West Virginia in Morgantown. First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CST.
