Eight Cowboys Earn Seedings for NCAA Championships

STILLWATER – The nine Oklahoma State wrestlers that qualified for next weekend's NCAA Championships learned their spots on the bracket on Wednesday night, with eight earning seeds.
Of the eight Cowboys that earned seeds, seven were awarded spots in the top 10 of their weight class.
At 125 pounds, Nick Piccininni will compete as the No. 6 seed and take on Travis Piotrowski of Illinois in the first round. With a 21-3 overall record this season, Piccininni was an All-American in 2017, and is coming off his second consecutive Big 12 Championship in Tulsa last weekend.
Redshirt sophomore Kaid Brock is the highest-seeded Cowboy at 133 pounds, claiming the No. 4 spot. Matched of with Dylan Duncan of Illinois in the first round, Brock currently boasts a 25-3 overall record this season and will look to build off a fifth-place All-American finish at the tournament last year.
Two-time defending champion Dean Heil claims the No. 6 seed at 141 pounds. Heil is 23-5 so far this season and will take on Cleveland State's Evan Cheek in the first round.
Boo Lewallen will wrestle as the No. 8 seed at 149 pounds in his first NCAA Championship appearance. The Cowboy redshirt sophomore is coming off his first-career Big 12 Championship and will match up with Oklahoma's Davion Jeffries in the first round.
At 165 pounds, Chandler Rogers will be the No. 8 seed and wrestle Brown's Jonathan Viruet in the first round. The 2018 Big 12 Champion, Rogers is 20-3 and leads the Cowboys in pins with 11 this season.
In his first NCAA Championships, Jacobe Smith takes the No. 13 seed at 174 pounds. Coming off a third-place finish at the Big 12 Championships last weekend, Smith will go up against Iowa's Joseph Gunther in the first round.
Unseeded at 184 pounds, Keegan Moore will wrestle No. 4 Pete Renda of NC State to open his weekend. Moore is 18-8 overall this season and is coming off a third-place finish at the conference meet.
Preston Weigel will look to build off his 2017 All-American performance this year, wrestling as the No. 9 seed. Racking up an 11-2 record so far this season, Weigel will take on either Kent State's Kyle Conel or Appalachian State's Randall Diabe in the first round.
Derek White rounds out the list of Cowboy selections at heavyweight, coming in as the No. 9 seed. With a 23-2 overall record this season, the 2018 Big 12 champ will go up against Utah Valley's Dustin Dennison in his first match of the weekend.
The NCAA Championships are set for March 15-17 in Cleveland, Ohio.
