Cowgirls' Winning Streak Ends in Pitcher's Duel
March 21, 2018 | Cowgirl Softball
TULSA, Okla. – The No. 23 Oklahoma State softball team had its 12-game winning run halted on Wednesday, as the Cowgirls fell to Tulsa, 2-0, in front of a sold-out crowd at the Collins Family Softball Complex.
Emmie Robertson handled duties in the circle for OSU (21-7) against the Golden Hurricane (19-11).
She struck out three, walked none and surrendered just two runs during five innings of work. Robertson's effort were for naught, however, as she took the loss and fell to 8-4 despite the solid performance.
Her efforts in the circle were matched by Tulsa's Emily Watson, who improved to 10-4 after pitching a complete-game shutout on Wednesday.
Vanessa Shippy logged the Cowgirls' first of three hits off Watson, as she slapped a single through the right side to open the contest. Shippy has now reached base in 11 of OSU's last 13 contests out of the leadoff spot, walking on six of those occasions.
She currently leads the Big 12 with a .699 on-base percentage so far in 2018.
Oklahoma State will now turn its attention toward the Big 12, as the Cowgirls open conference action against Iowa State this weekend in Stillwater. For more information on the Cowgirls, follow the team on Twitter (@CowgirlSB), Facebook (Cowgirl Softball) and Instagram (osusoftball).
