Cowgirls Drop Iowa State for First Big 12 Win

STILLWATER – The ninth-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team tallied its first conference win of the season and sixth-straight in its Big 12 opener on Saturday afternoon defeating Iowa State, 4-1.

The Cowgirls (10-1, 1-0 Big 12) took care of business Saturday, quickly picking up a pair of doubles wins before claiming three of four finished singles matches to lock up the team's 10^th victory of the season.

In doubles, Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova snagged the first win of the day with a 6-1 win over Cyclones Erin Freeman and Annabella Bonadonna. Megan McCray and Sami Court clinched the point for the Pokes with a 6-2 triumph over Margarita Timakova and Ekaterina Repina.

Iowa State got on the board early in singles with a Bonadonna straight-set win over Court in the sixth singles position to briefly tie the score, but the Cowgirls got back on track running off three dominant victories to put the Cyclones away.

Stresnakova earned her 12^th-straight win with a 6-1, 6-0 drubbing of Erin Freeman to regain the lead for the Pokes. The Cowgirl moves to 21-4 overall this season and 10-0 in dual appearances.

Megan McCray moved to 9-1 overall on the season with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Regina Espindola on two. It marks the seniors fifth consecutive win.

Guinart sealed the win for OSU, dispatching of Ekaterina Repina in a 6-1, 6-3 match that moved her to 17-6 on the year and a perfect 7-0 in dual starts.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sunday as West Virginia will travel to Stillwater for a noon Big 12 showdown at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
