Four Cowboys Earn All-America Status

CLEVELAND – Four members of the Oklahoma State wrestling team earned All-America status Friday night in the fourth session of the NCAA Championships at Quicken Loans Arena. It stretched the program's streak of multiple All-Americans to nine and stretched OSU's all-time All-American total to 462.
OSU went 4-of-7 in blood rounds, with Kaid Brock (133), Boo Lewallen (149), Chandler Rogers (165) and Jacobe Smith (174) each claiming podium spots. It marked Brock and Rogers' second All-America recognition, while Lewallen and Smith each claimed their first.
Brock will compete in the consolation semifinals on Saturday morning, while the other three Cowboys will each wrestle for seventh place.
Brock went 2-0 during the fourth session to set up a match against No. 3 Luke Pletcher of Ohio State in the consolation semifinals. Brock clinched his second-straight All-America honor by way of major decision over No. 10 Jack Mueller of Virginia before dropping No. 8 Montorie Bridges of Wyoming in the consolation quarterfinals, 12-7. Two wins on Saturday will net Brock a third-place finish.
Lewallen, Rogers and Smith each defeated higher-ranked seeds to clinch their podium spots.
Lewallen tallied an upset over No. 6 Justin Oliver to open the session. The Cowboy sophomore handled Oliver in a 9-4 match, registering three takedowns while only allowing a reversal from the Chippewa. Lewallen couldn't advance on to the consolation semifinals, as he ran into second-seeded Brandon Sorensen of Iowa in his next match. He'll be wrestling for position on Saturday as he'll go up against No. 10 Jason Tsirtis of Arizona State for seventh.
Following a first-round loss on Thursday morning, Rogers became one of six wrestlers in the tournament field to drop their first match and come back through consolations to claim All-America status. Rogers defeated Rider's No. 4 Chad Walsh in a thriller, scoring a takedown with four seconds left in the match to seal up an 11-9 decision and a second consecutive placement. Rogers will wrestle Cornell's Jonathon Chavez for seventh after dropping a tough match to Chance Marsteller in his second match of the evening.
Jacobe Smith brought OSU's All-American count to four with a 10-8 victory over No. 7 Taylor Lujan of Northern Illinois. Smith started out in a hole early, falling down, 4-0, before he used a takedown and back points to lead, 5-4, at the end of the first period. After Lujan took Smith down to tie the match with under a minute to go in the second, the Cowboy returned with a reversal and rideout to end the period leading, 8-6. Smith put the win on ice in the third with a takedown in the final minute. He would drop his following match to No. 6 Bo Jordan and will take on No. 11 David Kocer of South Dakota State Saturday in the seventh-place match.
Cowboys Nick Piccininni, Dean Heil and Derek White each were only one win away from locking up All-America bids, but came up short in their blood round matches.
The Cowboys currently sit in 12th on the team scoreboard with 35.5 points.
Saturday's action is set to begin at 11 a.m. ET. Fans can watch live on ESPNU.
