2018 Cowgirl Soccer Schedule
STILLWATER – Eleven home games at its new stadium highlight Oklahoma State's 2018 soccer schedule, which was released today by Cowgirl head coach Colin Carmichael.
The '18 schedule includes seven NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, with six of those opponents coming to Stillwater. Five of the Cowgirls' nine Big 12 Conference games will also be at home.
"Getting to play in the new stadium is going to be amazing no matter who we're playing," Carmichael said. "It's exciting for our kids, for us as coaches, for our fans — it's going to be an amazing atmosphere. There's a nice buzz around the stadium and the team with the success that we had last year.
"We've put together a very challenging non-conference schedule against some very high-caliber teams that will be great matchups for our team and draws for our fans and great opportunities to get impressive wins. And of course the Big 12 is always tough, and it's nice for us that we get five conference games at home this year."
OSU is coming off a 2017 season that saw the Cowgirls capture the sixth Big 12 championship in program history as they claimed the regular season crown with an 8-1-0 league mark. Carmichael's squad finished 16-4-3 overall and made the 11th NCAA Women's Soccer Championship appearance in program history, where they advanced to the second round.
Eleven players who started at least 12 games a year ago will return in 2018, led by senior forward Haley Woodard, who became the fourth All-American in program history in 2017 and was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
OSU opens with a preseason exhibition match against Missouri on Aug. 10 in Stillwater before kicking off the regular season the following weekend with a Friday night contest at Tulsa.
The Cowgirls will then return to Stillwater and host a non-conference match against Oklahoma on Aug. 19 in what will mark the official dedication of OSU's new $20 million stadium.
Other non-conference highlights include home showdowns against national powers Florida (Aug. 26) and Cal (Sept. 7) as well as a road match at Illinois (Aug. 31).
OSU opens Big 12 play on the road at Kansas State on Sept 21 before traveling to Kansas two days later; the Cowgirls also have conference road matches at Oklahoma and Baylor.
The Cowgirls' first Big 12 home match is set for Sept. 28 against Texas, and OSU will also host Texas Tech, West Virginia, Iowa State and TCU in conference play.
Postseason play begins Oct. 28 at the Big 12 Soccer Championship in Kansas City, Mo., with the start of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship set for Nov. 9.
