Highlights and Notes From Opening Weekend
- Starting pitcher Jonathan Heasley got Oklahoma State's season off on the right foot by throwing six shutout innings to collect a win in the season opener. The sophomore right-hander tied a career high with six strikeouts and did not allow a TXST runner to advance past first base.
- Colin Simpson picked up right where he left off last season by hitting two home runs on opening weekend. He went 6-for-13 against Bobcat pitchers and had six RBIs.
- Simpson hit safely in all three games against Texas State, extending his hitting streak to five games dating back to last season. Michael Neustifter also extended his hit streak to five games as he hit safely in his final three games of 2017 and had hits in both his appearances in San Marcos.
- Sunday provided the first save situation for Oklahoma State, and Carson Teel took full advantage of it. The senior worked the final two innings and struck out four, including the last two batters in the ninth, to earn his first save of the season in a 6-5 OSU win.
- Reza Aleaziz made his Cowboy debut over the weekend and pitched four scoreless innings over two outings.
- Senior Andrew Rosa got the start on Sunday and responded by going 3-for-4 with three runs, an RBI and a stolen base. He finished the weekend with a .667 batting average.
- Ben Leeper returned to the mound for the first time since March 1, 2016; he tossed a scoreless inning and had a strikeout in the second game of the TXST series. The sophomore right-hander has battled through two Tommy John surgeries.
