Cowgirls Handle Grambling State In Non-Conference Finale

STILLWATER, Okla. — Oklahoma State's women's defeated Grambling State 86-40 in Gallagher-Iba Arena in front of 1,651 fans on Sunday afternoon to improve to 9-2 on the year heading into conference play.

Sophomore Braxtin Miller led all scorers with 22 points along with five assists and four rebounds. Sophomore Vivian Gray recorded her first double-double as a Cowgirl, tallying 11 points and 10 boards.

OSU and and the Lady Tigers traded baskets throughout the first quarter. Junior Mariam Gnanou caused problems in the paint, scoring three points and grabbing four boards. The Cowgirls got to the charity stripe, hitting five of seven from the line and took a 13-12 lead into the second quarter.

Miller and senior Maria Castro hit back-to-back 3-pointers to contribute to the Cowgirls 11-0 run to open the second quarter. OSU kept its' lead throughout the quarter, but thanks to a pull-up 3-pointer from freshman Ja'Mee Asberry, the Cowgirls headed into halftime with a 36-22 lead over the Tigers.

The Cowgirls kept it rolling in the third quarter opening with a 14-0 run over the first 4:07 of the second half. OSU's defense came up big only allowing Grambling State two made field goals in the quarter and extended the Cowgirls lead 63-32 entering the fourth quarter.

Senior Karli Wheeler kept up the momentum for the Cowgirls scoring all of her eight points in the fourth quarter. OSU's defense kept up the strong performance only allowing eight Grambling State points in the final quarter.

The Cowgirls will be back in action in the New Year on Jan. 2 at 7 p.m. to open conference play against Texas.
