Cowboy Football Visits St. Jude

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Coach Mike Gundy and select members of the Oklahoma State football team stepped away from preparing for Monday's AutoZone Liberty Bowl matchup against Missouri to visit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in downtown Memphis.
The 12 Cowboys in attendance, along with Coach Gundy, autographed posters, chatted with children and took a tour of the campus. Two of those in attendance met with members of the media along the way to discuss what Friday's activity meant to them. A look at what they had to say:
Linebacker Philip Redwine-Bryant
On what it means to the team to visit St. Jude:
"It's big. It's such a life-changing experience, too, with all of the little kids - seeing them, interacting with them and all that stuff. I have family back at home dealing with the same situations that they are, so it's also heartwarming for me to see kids with smiles on their faces and stuff like that."
On how these events give him perspective:
"It means a lot to everybody and it means a lot to all of us. We're more than just football players. We're people just like them and we can help interact and make a difference. It's just like I said before - seeing those kids with a smile on their faces because they see us... I was just like one of those kids back in the day. I was looking up to who I am now and that's crazy. I'm here and I'm able to do the same thing that others did for me back then."
On the success of St. Jude and others' research efforts over the years:
"It's huge. It's crazy how much things have improved over the past few decades and it's just crazy. It's good that it's a thing here and that St. Jude is actually doing what they set out to do. It's just crazy to me and it's heartwarming to me. I have family from back home that was in the same situation, and back then, when they were dea;ing with it, things weren't all that great, so it's really good to see all this now."
Offensive Lineman Marcus Keyes
On visiting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital:
"It's always really nice to come out to do this sort of stuff and it's really inspiring."
On how these events shape his perspective:
"It really makes you want to be grateful for what you've got because these kids are going through a lot, and you've just got to look at all the things that you have in life. There are children fighting for their lives and it makes you want to fight for the little things in life, too."
