Sughroue, Gade PR in Season Opener
December 01, 2018 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
BOSTON—Molly Sughroue and Noah Gade both ran for the Oklahoma State track and field team in the 3,000 meters at the Sharon Colyear-Danyville BU Season Opener to kick off their final indoor campaigns.
Sughroue opened her season with a 9:18.36 performance in the 3,000 meters. She finished first in her heat and first overall. That mark sets a new personal record for the senior and is the seventh-best indoor 3,000 meters time in OSU history.
Assistant coach Cody Halsey walking away from a race with a win is always great.
"Molly has really big goals this season," Halsey said. "This was our first really big, great step in the right direction."
Sughroue is a three-time All-American and a three-time conference champion. She figures to be in the mix nationally for an individual title and is a probable member of the Cowgirls' distance medley relay team, which finished sixth at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships.
Noah Gade kicked off his final indoor season in the 3,000 meters and crossed the line in 8:11.40. He came in third in his heat and third overall. Gade's performance also set a new personal best in the 3,000 meters. It's the first time he's set a personal best in the 3K since 2014.
"I'm really proud of how Noah raced," Halsey said. "He ran smart from the gun. He was aggressive and put himself in the race, which showed in his result."
Gade is one of the elites on the track and off it. He is a four-time First Team All-Academic All-Big 12 honoree. In June, he was honored as a Google Cloud Academic All-American. He was also award the Elite 90 Award after the 2017 cross country campaign. The Elite 90 Award is given to the athlete who has earned the highest cumulative GPA and has made it to the finals of their sport.
"I'm excited for their indoor seasons and what's to come in January and February," Halsey said.
OSU track and field returns to action Jan. 11 in Fayetteville, Arkansas, for the Arkansas Invitational.
