OSU Cross Country Leads Big 12 in Academic Honors

IRVING, TEXAS—The Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country teams combined for a conference-leading 26 Academic All-Big 12 selections for the 2018 cross country season, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Cowgirls led all women's programs with 17 selections, 15 of which came as first-team honors. Taylor Somers and Ariane Ballner led the Cowgirls with 4.00 GPA marks. Somers earned her perfect mark in strategic communication and Ballner earned her 4.00 in management and marketing.
The Cowboys tied for the most men's academic all-conference selections with Baylor at nine honorees. Seven of the Cowboys' selections made the all-academic first team. Luis Martinez earned his seventh first team academic All-Big 12 award. In 2017, Martinez was honored as the Men's Cross Country Scholar of the Year in the Big 12.
In order to qualify for a spot on the All-Academic Big 12 teams, student-athletes must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher and have competed in at least 20 percent of the team's competitions.

Women's All-Academic Second Team: Kaytlyn Larson and Rachel Norman.
Men's All-Academic First Team: Alec Haines, Nicholas Kenville, Sukhi Khosla, Owen Krewson, Luis Martinez, Isai Rodriguez and Ryan Smeeton.
Men's All-Academic Second Team: Garrett Calhoun and Bryce Quigley.
