Cowboys Preview Oklahoma
November 06, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select members of the Oklahoma State football team met with media after practice Tuesday to discuss the Cowboys' upcoming Bedlam matchup against Oklahoma. A look at some of their comments:
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On Bedlam:
"It's chaotic. Fans love it, obviously. Players love it. It's just a good rivalry."
On what he remembers from OSU's 2014 win in Norman:
"I remember when we came back here - we rode back on the buses - there was a swarm of people outside the stadium waiting for us when we got home."
On what it would mean to win this week:
"It would be huge. We're taking this game with the same preparation as always. Normal gameplan and normal game week."
On the team staying motivated:
"We're still fighting for a bowl. We come to compete every day at practice. We know we're one win away from being bowl eligible. We're very motivated."
Running Back Justice Hill
On Bedlam week:
"It's a big, fun game."
On his time playing in the Bedlam game:
"It's just a game. I just give my all every single week and it is just another week."
On playing on natural grass:
"I played on grass all of high school and middle school, so it really doesn't make a difference to me."
Defensive Tackle Enoch Smith. Jr.
On practice leading up to Bedlam:
"It's really intense. We are moving at a fast pace because we have to get ready for their quarterback, who is extremely agile. He will run all over the place, so we've got a lot of movement going on in practice. A lot of intensity so we can go up against their offensive line and do what we have to do."
On Kyler Murray:
"[I have to] focus on my responsibility and not do anything supernatural or out of the ordinary because it's a football game. You don't want to get out the box and try to do stuff that you are not accustomed to doing because you will create a crease and he will find it and try to exploit it."
On Oklahoma's running backs:
"Power, speed, physicality - I see it all. But I see an opportunity for us to go out there and try to shock the world. We are going to do the best we possibly can to do that."
Safety Malcolm Rodriguez
On Bedlam:
"It's Bedlam week. Both teams are from Oklahoma. It's a big deal."
On practice leading up to Bedlam:
"All you can do is just practice and just come out every week and get back to it."
Wide Receiver Tyron Johnson
On bouncing back from last week's loss to Baylor:
"We need to focus on our assignments and try to minimize the penalties. Just eliminate the small stuff that hurts ourselves."
On the added pressure of this week being Bedlam:
"It's just an extra motivator. I played in a similar rivalry at LSU against Alabama, so I know how serious the preparation is coming into the week. As a rivalry, it's a big game and we need to win."
On Coach Gundy's comments about him being a vocal leader for the team:
"I just try to get the team fired up as much as I can. I try to do as much as I can to help us win. So if that's me being more of a vocal leader, then that's what I have to do."
Linebacker Justin Phillips
On helping the younger guys get ready for their first Bedlam game:
"I just told them to be ready to fight. It's one of those games where everybody is up and at it and it's going to be a dog fight while we're out there."
Offensive Tackle Dylan Galloway
On his push for playing time:
"I have been here for a couple years. I just feel like it's my time. I've just been working pretty much since I've been here. I've been focusing on little things like technique and trying to get stronger. I feel like I've worked hard during my time here."
On his extra workouts:
"I've mainly just been trying to get stronger, fast and just little things like that."
On getting help from upperclassmen:
"There is a lot of help from Larry (Williams), Johnny (Wilson), Shane (Richards). They always help and coach you up - especially Shane right now. He's just sitting back and helping out everyone with their technique."
