Tracking the Trends: OSU vs. TCU

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State football team visits TCU on Saturday for the 2018 regular season finale. A look at some of the streaks and trends heading into the game:
Talking Points vs. TCU – Offense
• Wide receiver Tylan Wallace is a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award - a well-deserved honor for a player who is averaging more catches and yards per game than each of the past three Biletnikoff Award winners. Oklahoma State has produced three Biletnikoff Award winners, which is more than any other school.
• Wallace has been at his best on the biggest stages. In OSU's three games against top-10 opponents this season, Wallace has averaged 5.6 catches, 168.0 yards and 2.0 receiving touchdowns per game. He had over 200 yards against both Oklahoma and Texas, marking just the third time in school history an OSU player has had two 200-yard games in a season and the first time it's been done against two ranked teams.
• Quarterback Taylor Cornelius was outstanding in last week's win over No. 7 West Virginia. He earned Walter Camp National Player of the Week honors after passing for 338 yards, rushing for 106 and accounting for six total touchdowns. In doing so, he became only the third player in Big 12 history to have 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and five passing touchdowns in a game, as well as the first player in OSU history to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game. According to ESPN's QBR metric which scores quarterbacks on a scale of 1-100, Cornelius had an adjusted QBR of 89.2 in the win over the Mountaineers. In his last three games against ranked opponents, he has an average QBR of 90.1. In his last four games overall, he has accounted for 16 touchdowns and thrown only two interceptions.
• Cornelius has been outstanding the past two weeks. He passed for 501 yards against No. 6 Oklahoma to set an OSU Bedlam record. That performance marked the third-highest total in a game in OSU history. Over the past two games, Cornelius has accounted for 940 yards of total offense and nine total touchdowns.
• Freshman running back Chuba Hubbard has crossed the 100-yard rushing mark in each of the past two games. In his second career start last week, Hubbard finished with career highs of 138 rushing yards and 225 all-purpose yards, marking the highest total for a Cowboy this season. He also ran for 104 yards vs. Oklahoma a week earlier, scoring three touchdowns in the process.
• Doak Walker candidate Justice Hill already has his name all over the record books, but he is closing in on another accomplishment that's only been done once before in OSU history: three seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards. Needing only 70 more rushing yards to eclipse 1,000 this year, Hill would join 1977 Heisman runner-up Terry Miller (1975-77) as the only players in school history to do it. He would also become just the ninth player in Big 12 history to accomplish the feat, joining Adrian Peterson (OU), Brad Smith (Missouri), Cedric Benson (UT), De'Mond Parker (OU) Darren Davis (ISU), Darren Sproles (KSU), Ricky Williams (UT) and Samaje Perine (OU).
Talking Points vs. TCU – Defense
• In last week's win, OSU's defense made halftime adjustments that had a dramatic impact on the game. After surrendering 31 points in the first half, OSU gave up only one touchdown in second half.
• A.J. Green was a standout performer last week, recording a career-best three pass break ups and making the game-clinching play. The junior batted down Will Grier's final pass attempt in the end zone with no time remaining to seal OSU's 45-41 win over No. 7 West Virginia. The ball was snapped on the OSU 14-yard line and was not a last gasp Hail Mary play. His three pass break ups also match the second-best total for any player in a Big 12 game this season. He was matched up with Biletnikoff semifinalist David Sills V for the vast majority of the game and held him to just four catches on 11 targets.
• The Cowboys rank 12th in FBS in red zone defense. That showed up in a big way last week, as OSU held WVU to just four scores in seven red zone opportunities. Compare that with OSU scoring seven times in seven chances, and it had a dramatic impact. The Cowboy defense is holding opponents to just a 73 percent scoring rate in the red zone this season, which ranks as the second-best red zone defense in the Big 12 and No. 12 in FBS.
• Oklahoma State has done its best work when getting to the quarterback and blowing up plays in the backfield. With one week remaining in the regular season, OSU ranks No. 5 nationally in team sacks per game, averaging 3.45 per contest. The Cowboys have led the nation in sacks for the majority of the season and need eight more this season to set a new school record.
