Andrew Heaney, Peter Prodanov & Matt Smith
Three Selected For Induction Into Cowboy Baseball Hall Of Fame
November 19, 2018 | Cowboy Baseball
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State Cowboy Baseball Hall of Fame will induct three members in its Class of 2019 as Andrew Heaney, Peter Prodanov and Matt Smith have been selected for that honor.
Â
"It's always exciting to call former Cowboys, and it's even more exciting to let them know that they've been voted into the Cowboy Baseball Hall of Fame," said OSU head coach Josh Hollilday. "To hear their response and to hear them go back down that memory lane of what this university and this program meant to them and hear the excitement in their voice is just an awesome thing.
Â
"When you look at Peter Prodanov, Matt Smith and Andrew Heaney, you're looking at guys that during their time here had very significant roles on really good teams. Peter was an extremely versatile player who played in the College World Series, one of those guys that got better every single year he was here. Matt Smith had some complete stretches of dominance during his time here, pitched in the College World Series and is our all-time strikeout leader who had a very successful career and reached the major leagues. And Andrew Heaney had one of the most dominant years on the mound in school history before being a top-10 pick in the MLB Draft. Now he's a great representation of Oklahoma State baseball as a current major leaguer and a two-time nominee for the Roberto Clemente Award.
Â
"These three guys are everything that is good about our program's history. They're special people to Oklahoma State baseball, and we're excited to get them together and celebrate them. And what better year to recognize these guys from essentially three different time frames than in the last year of Allie P. Reynolds Stadium."
Â
A five-person committee selected the hall of fame inductees. The panel evaluated candidates based on their accomplishments both at Oklahoma State and the professional baseball level, paying special attention to those who were All-Americans, had Major League Baseball careers or were first-round draft picks or who hold a significant position in the OSU record books.
Â
With the addition of this trio, the Cowboy Baseball Hall of Fame will grow to 57 members.
Â
OSU baseball fans wanting to help celebrate the hall of fame careers of Heaney, Prodanov and Smith, as well as share the excitement of the current Cowboy ballclub for the upcoming 2019 season, can purchase tickets for the annual First Pitch Banquet, which will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019, at the Wes Watkins Center on the OSU campus. Tickets are limited, with each of the previous banquets selling out, and will go on sale in December.
