12 Reasons Why OSU’s Win Over West Virginia Mattered

STILLWATER – The OSU football team matched its second-largest comeback victory in school history Saturday after coming back from a 17-point halftime deficit to defeat No. 7 West Virginia, 45-41. Some other important notes on the win:
The Oklahoma State win …
- Made it bowl eligible for its 13th consecutive season, extending a school record. The streak is also the 10th-longest active bowl streak in the nation.
- Made it 5-1 in its past six games vs. opponents ranked in the A.P. top 25.
- Was Mike Gundy's eighth career win over an AP top-10 opponent and the 19th in OSU history.
- Marked its second win over an A.P. top-seven team this season.
- Marked the first time in school history OSU has beaten A.P. top-10 teams in back-to-back home games.
- Marked the fourth time in school history it has beaten two A.P. top-10 teams in one season. (It is the fifth time including 1972 with a win over No. 3 Colorado and win by forfeit over No. 3 Oklahoma)
- Gave it four straight wins vs WVU, extending the longest streak for either team in the series.
- Improved it to 24-9 in its past 33 games and 38-14 in its past 52 games overall.
- Made it 6-4 all-time vs. WVU.
- Made it 40-12 at Boone Pickens Stadium since the start of the 2011 season.
- Improved Mike Gundy's record in Big 12 games to 72-47.
- Improved it to 53-26 in Big 12 Conference games since 2010.

Offense: QB Taylor Cornelius
:: Cornelius became just the third player in Big 12 history to have 300 yards passing, 100 yards rushing and five passing touchdowns in a game. The last to do it was Baylor's Seth Russell in 2015.
:: Threw for 338 yards and five touchdowns on 30-for-46 passing, ran for 106 yards on 13 carries (8.2 yards per carry) and threw a touchdown to Tylan Wallace with 42 seconds remaining to rally Oklahoma State past No. 7 West Virginia, 45-41. He accounted for six total touchdowns.
:: Became the first player in OSU history to pass for 300 yards and rush for 100 yards in the same game.
:: Added a fourth-quarter 9-yard rushing touchdown to pull the Cowboys within three points of WVU with less than 5:00 remaining.
:: Tied a career high with five touchdown passes. He has had three or more in six games this season.
:: His 106 rushing yards made him the first OSU QB to eclipse the 100-yard rushing mark since J.W. Walsh had 125 yards on the ground against Mississippi State in 2013.
:: Led OSU wins over A.P. top-10 teams in back-to-back home games for the first time in school history.

:: Batted down Will Grier's final pass attempt in the end zone with no time remaining to seal OSU's 45-41 win over No. 7 West Virginia. The ball was snapped on the OSU 14-yard line and was not a last gasp Hail Mary play.
:: Finished with a career-high 3 pass break ups to match the second-best total for any player in a Big 12 game this season.
:: Held Biletnikoff semifinalist David Sills V to just four catches on 11 targets.
