Cowboys Discuss West Virginia
November 13, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select members of the Oklahoma State football team met with members of the media after practice Tuesday to preview the Cowboys' upcoming clash with West Virginia Saturday at Boone Pickens Stadium. A look at some of their comments:
Wide Receiver Tylan Wallace
On being named a semifinalist for the Biletnikoff award:
"It's a real honor just to be in the talk about that. I almost try not to pay too much attention to social media, but it's just surreal to be mentioned in the talk about that award."
On his big games:
"I just take the opportunities when my number is called. Our coaches call certain plays for certain players to take their shots and I just try to take the opportunity and make the most of what I got when they call my shot."
On his fourth quarter touchdown against Oklahoma:
"Once they called the play and I saw what coverage it was, I realized it was my ball because that's the exact coverage we worked on in practice. I was like, 'OK, this is me. I just have to make sure I do everything right, make sure I run my route right, make sure when he throws it to me that I hold on to it and get into the end zone.' Once I had it, I had make sure I held on to it because I got hit at the end of that."
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On Senior Day:
"It's another game. We've still got two more left so I haven't really thought about senior day too much."
On how fast the season has flown by for him:
"It's been fun. I've enjoyed every moment of it. Just trying to embrace every opportunity that I get."
On Tylan Wallace's Biletnikoff Award bid:
"That's all on him. He did it all. I haven't said anything to him really, but he deserves it. He's an unbelievable player. I'm just happy for him."
Cowboy Back Britton Abbott
On what initially drew him to OSU:
"The level of football, and Coach Gundy treats his players great. He stands up for us and he will give you an opportunity to prove yourself."
On the growth of Taylor Cornelius:
"I was fortunate enough to come in with Taylor, and we were roommates for that summer. He has been who he is, he doesn't change at all. You can never tell if he is having a good day or a bad day just because he is so mellow, which is a really good leadership quality."
On playing his last game in Boone Pickens Stadium:
"I haven't talked to the other guys about it but mostly to my family. Oklahoma State football has been a big thing for my family to rally around. It has got a lot of us together."
Defensive End Cole Walterscheid
On dealing with West Virginia's offense:
"It is something we have prepared for. They have a lot of weapons and we are focused on doing everything we can to shut them down."
On his final season winding down:
"It's tough. A lot of people don't know how much it means to play OSU football. I just want to make the most of the time I have left."
Defensive End Jordan Brailford
On Bedlam:
"The loss last week was definitely tough, but we knew we left it all out on the field so getting motivated for this next game was no problem at all. We feel like we have a great opportunity, with another top-10 coming into our house, to do something great like we did against Texas."
On West Virginia's offensive line:
"Their guys might not be quite as big as Oklahoma's line, but they have guys that are tough blockers. They have great hands so we're going to have to be aggressive to make some plays out there."
On OSU's defensive scheme compared to previous years:
"It's extremely different from my perspective. I was strictly playing defensive end and a little outside linebacker to now playing all over the field. It's extremely different to me, but it just feels like more of an attacking defense. Everyone has a chance to make a play, from the safety down to the nose guard."
Cornerback Rodarius Williams
On his focus heading into this week's game:
"I'm just focused on finishing this season and finishing good with the team."
On West Virginia:
"It's going to be a great game. We are looking forward to playing those guys and trying to stop their attack. We know they want to pass the ball. We're looking to shut those guys down and compete."
On Senior Day:
"We are going to make sure this is the best memory of [the seniors'] last home game and make it worth it. We are going to put up a fight. We are going to compete every play and make those guys feel us."
