November 12, 2018 | Cowboy Cross Country & Track, Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER—The Oklahoma State women's cross country team moved up two spots to No. 24 and the men's squad dropped six spots to No. 27 in Week 7 of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association National Coaches' Poll, the organization announced Monday.
The Cowgirls' move back into the top 25 came after they finished second at the Midwest Regional on Friday. Sinclaire Johnson led the way with a 16th-place finish, earning All-Region honors. Grace Baker and Taylor Somers both earned All-Region honors with 23rd- and 24th-place finishes.
With this entry in the rankings, the OSU women have now been ranked in 28 of the 31 most recent coaches' polls.
Iowa State is the only other Big 12 team in the Week 7 rankings. The Cyclones moved up two spots to 13th after winning the Midwest Region. Texas also received votes.
The Cowboys' fall is attributed to a fourth-place finish at the Midwest Regional. The Cowboys put three runners in the top 15. Isai Rodriguez, Ashenafi Hatte and Luis Martinez all earned All-Region honors for their performances. OSU also faced adversity Friday when Jorge Perez, a key part of the Cowboy scoring effort, didn't complete the race due to injury.
The Cowboys' rankings streak now climbs to 112 straight weeks. The streak dates back to Week 3 of the 2005 season.
Iowa State moved up one spot to take over fifth place in the rankings. Texas also received votes.
Both the men's and women's team qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championships, which take place at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday in Madison, Wisconsin.
