November 12, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wide receiver Tylan Wallace is one of 11 national semifinalists for the 2018 Biletnikoff Award, the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., announced Monday morning.
Wallace, a sophomore, makes his first appearance as a semifinalist for the honor, while it is the third-consecutive season a Cowboy has been named a semifinalist. OSU's James Washington was a semifinalist in 2016, and in 2017 won the award which is given annually to the outstanding FBS receiver regardless of position.
A Fort Worth, Texas, native, Wallace is having an outstanding season at wide receiver. After 10 games, he leads the nation in 10-yard catches, 20-yard catches, catches on passes thrown at least 15-yards downfield, yards per reception (min. 50 catches), 100-yard games and 200-yard games. He also leads all Power Five players with 55 first down catches.
Wallace is averaging more catches and receiving yards per game than each of the past three Biletnikoff Award winners, and his average of 18.85 yards per catch is better than 13 of the past 15 Biletnikoff winners.
Wallace has also been at his best on his biggest stages. In OSU's two games against top-six opponents this season, Wallace has totaled 442 receiving yards, 20 catches and 4 touchdowns. (222 yards, 10 rec., 2 TD vs. No. 6 Texas and 220 yards, 10 rec., 2 TD at No. 6 Oklahoma). Those two games mark just the third time in school history an OSU player has had two 200-yard games in a season, and the first time it's been done against two ranked teams.
On the season, Wallace ranks No. 3 in FBS with 1,282 receiving yards. He also has seven 100-yard receiving games on the year.
The Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc., will announce the three finalists on Nov. 19, 2018. The 2018 Biletnikoff Award winner will be presented live on Dec. 6, 2018, on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN. The winner will be presented the Biletnikoff Award trophy at the Biletnikoff Award Banquet at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee on Feb. 16, 2019.
Fans are encouraged to participate in the Biletnikoff Award FanVote at BiletnikoffAward.com/fan-vote. The aggregate fan tally will be counted as one official vote to determine three finalists and the winner.
Oklahoma State receivers have won three total Biletnikoff Awards, which is more than any other school. In addition to Washington last season, Justin Blackmon won the award in 2010 and 2011.
