Cowboys Preview Kansas State
October 09, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Select members of the Oklahoma State football team met with media Tuesday after practice to talk about the Cowboys' upcoming visit to Manhattan, where they will face Kansas State on Saturday. Here is a look at some of what the Pokes had to say:
Quarterback Taylor Cornelius
On the team's mindset heading into this week:
"Its always got to be positive. It's like any other week of preparation. We're off of Iowa State and we're on to Kansas State, so it's just another week of preparation."
On Kansas State:
"It's a lot of the same things they've been doing for a long time. Four down linemen - stuff we haven't seen for the past three games. But before Coach (Jim) Knowles got here, that's the stuff we saw every day."
On his preparation last year as the backup vs. now as a starter:
"I feel like when you're the backup, you always have to prepare for – you never know what's going to happen. You're always one snap away. I thought I always prepared like I was ready to go."
Defensive End Cole Walterscheid
On Iowa State:
"We just weren't ready to go. I take the blame for that being an older guy and not having us ready to go. We've just got to bounce back from that and have a good week of practice this week."
On last year's matchup against Kansas State:
"You try not to dwell on that kind of stuff. It was an unfortunate loss last year, but we're just going to come ready to play this week."
On preparing for the upcoming week:
"We're just going to keep doing what we've been doing. We'll just make sure we're prepared and ready to go out there and play."
Running Back Chuba Hubbard
On OSU's recent road success:
"We've had a lot of success on the road, but really it's each and every week. Obviously we have to rally back after our loss, but right now we know what we're capable of and I know that once we start clicking, we'll be able to do something special."
On Kansas State:
"I mean, they're just like any other team. Football is football. We'll scheme against them. We've got a good scheme in and I know we'll do some good things."
On the team looking to rebound after a loss:
"We're ready to go. We want to bounce back and we know that anything is possible. It might've gotten off to a rough start, but we're going to finish strong."
Linebacker Justin Phillips
On K-State's offense:
"They run their quarterback a lot. They have some big dudes up front that they utilize and tighten up a little bit. They just get behind their big guys and try to run the ball."
On if last year's loss affects this week's matchup:
"It's another game that we want to, and need to, win. We look to win every game. We don't think too much about last year. We think about what we can do this year with the new team that we have."
On the team's mentality after the loss against Iowa State:
"We are picking it up. Nobody is holding their heads down. Just moving forward and looking forward to a great second half of the season."
Safety Malcolm Rodriguez
On how the secondary can improve:
"We just have to do a lot of communicating back there in the secondary."
On adjusting to the opposing offense:
"We have to make adjustments on the sideline with Coach Knowles. He does a pretty good job of that."
Wide Receiver Dillon Stoner
On his health:
"It was a lot better. Any time you are sitting out, it's brutal. We took care of business against Kansas and I was happy to be back. We still have some things to work out but we will be good to go soon."
On the throw from Cornelius in the third quarter against Iowa State:
"I kind of felt the zone and Taylor just put it right on me. I knew he was going to get it there, so there was no surprise."
On Cornelius feeling more comfortable in the offense:
"I think he is more comfortable. I think things are starting to slow down for him. I think he has been doing a great job."
