STILLWATER – Oklahoma State wrestling standout Kenny Monday was inducted into the United World Wrestling International Wrestling Hall of Fame this past week while in Budapest for the Senior World Championships.
The induction makes him one of five Americans inducted as a men's freestyle wrestler this year. He joins former Cowboy wrestlers John Smith and Yojiro Uetake in receiving this honor.
In his time at OSU, Monday amassed a 121-12-2 record at 150 pounds. He was a two-time conference champion and three-time All-American and NCAA finalist, claiming his single title in 1984. He ranks second on the Cowboys' all-time list for falls.
Monday is one of 41Cowboy Olympians and had his share of success on the international stage. In 1988, he brought home gold from the Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, and followed up the next year being named Amateur Wrestling News Man of the Year. Monday went on to capture gold at the World Championships in 1989 and silver in 1991 before returning to the Olympics in Barcelona, where he finished second.
He was among 21 wrestling figures inducted with this class and one of just six freestyle competitors.
