Cowboy Baseball Set For Fall Scrimmages At Vanderbilt
October 20, 2018 | Cowboy Baseball
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Oklahoma State will face Vanderbilt in a pair of informal scrimmages this weekend at Hawkins Field, taking on the Commodores today at 1 p.m. and concluding with a session beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Â
Vanderbilt will provide an online audio broadcast for the scrimmages at https://vucommodores.com/watch/.
Â
The format for the scrimmages will include four quarters of seven innings during the weekend. The squads will play two quarters (14 innings) on Saturday and two quarters (14 innings) on Sunday. After each quarter, the score will be reverted back to 0-0.
Â
The scoring system (all worth one point unless noted):
The inning is flipped automatically after 25 pitches and one point will be awarded for every runner left in scoring position. The team with the highest amount of points after seven innings wins that quarter. The winner of each quarter earns two additional points to cumulative score; if the teams are tied, the value of the next quarter will be doubled.
Â
At the end of the weekend, the team with the highest amount of points wins total cumulative score. If both teams are tied, they will go to a "showdown" – bases loaded, 1 out – with the team that records the most points during the showdown dubbed the winner.
Â
OSU is coming off a 31-26-1 season in which it earned its sixth-straight NCAA Regional berth. The Cowboys finished second in the Big 12 Conference standings and advanced to the finals of the NCAA DeLand Regional.
Â
Vanderbilt was 35-27 a year ago and fell one win shy of advancing to the College World Series as the Commodores fell to Mississippi State in Super Regional play.
