Cowboys Go 2-0 During Day One At Big 12 Match Play

HOCKLEY, Texas – Oklahoma State's men's golf team opened play at the Big 12 Match Play tournament on Friday with a pair of victories, defeating Texas Tech and West Virginia at Houston Oaks.
The top-seeded Cowboys went unbeaten during the morning session, picking up a 4-0-2 victory over the Red Raiders at the par-71, 7,007-yard layout.
Junior Viktor Hovland notched a 3-and-1 victory over Ivan Ramirez, while sophomore Austin Eckroat took down Kyle Hogan 4 and 2. Senior Zach Bauchou and freshman Aman Gupta each posted 2-and-1 victories, defeating Markus Braadlie and Sandy Scott, respectively.
Senior Hayden Wood and sophomore Matthew Wolff each halved their matches.
During the afternoon session, the Cowboys posted a 4-1-1 victory over the Mountaineers.
Hovland took down Kurtis Grant, 3 and 2, while Wood defeated Max Sear, 3 and 1.
Wolff added another point for the Pokes, defeating Logan Perkins, 4 and 2. Gupta posted a 2-and-1 victory over Etienne Panieau.
Bauchou halved his match with Matt Sharpstene, while WVU's victory came courtesy of Mark Goetz and his 1-up win over Eckroat.
During pool play, each team will play four matches with three points being awarded for a win and one for a draw.
At the conclusion of pool play, each team will be ranked 1-5 within their pool based on points accrued. The first session will begin at 8 a.m. and the second session at 1:30 p.m. each day. The championship match will feature the team with the highest point total from Pool A and the team with the highest total from Pool B.
The Cowboys will face TCU tomorrow morning before having the afternoon session off.
