Brailford Added to Chuck Bednarik Award Watch List
October 10, 2018 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State defensive end Jordan Brailford has been added to the watch list for the 2018 Chuck Bednarik Award, the Maxwell Football Club today announced Wednesday.
The award is presented annually to the college defensive player of the year and is named in honor of College and Pro Football Hall of Famer Chuck Bednarik.
Brailford, a redshirt junior out of Tulsa, leads the nation with eight total sacks and eight solo sacks this season. He also ranks third nationally with 11.5 tackles for loss and is on pace to set OSU school records in each of those categories.
Brailford's best outing of the season so far came in OSU's win at Kansas, where he finished with career highs in tackles with eight, sacks with three and tackles for loss with five. His five tackles for loss marked the most for any Big 12 player in a game this season and tied for the second most in OSU history. His three sacks tied for third all-time at OSU and are the most since Nathan Peterson had three at Baylor in 2007.
He received Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors for that performance, adding to a résumé that includes preseason All-Big 12 recognition, placement on the Ted Hendricks Award watch list and 2017 second team All-Big 12 honors from the coaches and Associated Press.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced Oct. 29, and three finalists will be announced Nov. 19. The winner of the award will be announced as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards, held Dec. 6 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta. The formal presentation will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 8, 2019.
The watch list candidates have been chosen by the Maxwell Football Club's Selection Committee. All members of the Maxwell Football Club, NCAA Sports Information Directors, Head Coaches and selected national media are eligible to vote for the award.
