Rodriguez Helps Lead Mexico To CONCACAF Title

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's Kim Rodriguez played a key role in Mexico capturing its first-ever CONCACAF Under-20 Women's Championship title last Sunday in Trinidad & Tobago.
Rodriguez, who is coming off a standout freshman season with the Cowgirls, played as a defender in all five of Mexico's matches during the tourney; she started three of those matches, including the semifinal vs. Canada and the final against the United States.
"I was so excited to follow the success of Kim and her Mexico teammates throughout the Under-20 CONCACAF Championships," said OSU head coach Colin Carmichael. "Kim had a terrific tournament and displayed all of the qualities that she showed for OSU last fall. For Kim to win a Big 12 championship with us and then the U-20 championship with Mexico is quite an amazing feat, and now she will represent Mexico at the U-20 World Cup this summer — I could not be more proud of her."
Mexico and the U.S. tied 1-1 in the final, with Mexico claiming the title by winning a penalty kick shootout, 4-2. The United States entered the match as the four-time defending champion and had defeated Mexico during Group B play earlier in the tourney.
In the semifinal against Canada, Rodriguez buried a penalty kick during the shootout to help Mexico advance as it won the shootout by a 4-3 margin after the match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Rodriguez will be part of a Mexico team that will represent CONCACAF in the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France in August.
