Track and Field Squads Appear in Preseason Rankings

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State men's and women's indoor track and field teams both were named in Wednesday's United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 preseason poll, checking in at No. 62 and No. 88, respectively.
Despite the rankings, both squads showed promise in the Kansas State Winter Invitational last month.
In Manhattan, the teams took first in 10 events, which was highlighted by Mace Metcalf's first-place finish in the men's pentathlon to kick off the weekend. OSU also swept the 600-yard titles, with newcomer Latriciea Smith taking the crown for the women and senior Brandon Singleton for the men.
In last year's indoor season, the Cowboys earned seven All-America honors and four Big 12 event titles.
The Cowgirls also put two on last season's indoor All-Americans list, highlighted by standout Kaela Edwards. Edwards is the highest-scoring athlete at the NCAA Indoor Championships in school history, along with breaking the NCAA record in the 1,000 meters.
The squads resume their indoor season after a month away from competition on Jan. 13 at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock, Texas.
