STILLWATER — The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced its second regular season national rankings on Tuesday, and the Cowboys moved up to No. 9 in the poll, while the Cowgirls dropped to No. 21.
The Cowboys passed Iona University at No. 9 in the week two poll after coming off a 2-1 record in the dual meet Cowboy Preview on Sept. 1.
OSU remains the highest-ranked Big 12 squad in the nation, with Iowa State coming in at No. 13 and Texas receiving votes.
For the women, the Cowgirls fell to No. 21 behind Michigan State, but remain the highest-ranked Big 12 women's team. Iowa State comes in at No. 23, with Baylor and Iowa State receiving votes.
The Cowgirls went 0-3 in the Cowboy Preview but got a solid sixth-place finish from Germany-native Ariane Ballner.
Both squads will be back in action Sept. 30 at the Cowboy Jamboree. The Jamboree remains the oldest cross country race in the nation, and is held at the OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater.
