September 18, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State quarterback Mason Rudolph was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, it was announced Monday. It is the fourth time he has earned Big 12 weekly honors in his OSU career.
Rudolph, a Heisman Trophy candidate, put on a clinic against Pittsburgh this past Saturday, throwing for five touchdowns, all of which came in the first half. He finished 23-of-32 passing for 497 yards before being pulled in the middle of the third quarter with OSU comfortably ahead.
The Rock Hill, South Carolina, native set a school record for passing yards in a half, amassing 423 yards through the air during the first 30 minutes of Saturday's contest. That total is the second best in Big 12 history and the most against an FBS opponent since 2013 when San Jose State's Dave Fales passed for 451 vs. Fresno State.
Rudolph also broke a school record for consecutive pass attempts without an interception, surpassing Brandon Weeden's previous record of 194 set in 2011. His streak reached 216 passes and was the longest active streak in the nation.
The Heisman candidate flourished on third downs Saturday, as he was 6-for-6 passing for 152 yards and a touchdown with six conversions - all of which came in the first half. Rudolph also helped OSU set another school record for yards in a half with 516 total yards accumulated in Saturday's first half.
With the nation's deepest wide receiving corps at his disposal, Rudolph spread the ball around Saturday, helping four OSU receivers reach the 100-yard mark. It was the first time that has happened in school history and the first time an FBS team has had four 100-yard receivers since Texas Tech had four against Kansas State in 2005.
Rudolph and the Cowboys return to Stillwater this weekend to open Big 12 play at home against No. 16 TCU. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CT on ESPN.
