September 11, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State kicker Matt Ammendola was honored as the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week, it was announced Monday.
Ammendola, a sophomore, made three of his four field goal attempts against South Alabama last Friday, which included a career-long 53-yard field goal just before halftime to put OSU up 20-0 at the break. He also made 48- and 31-yard field goals during the Cowboys' 44-7 victory.
The Lansdale, Pennsylvania, native also was 5-for-5 on PAT attempts against South Alabama, as he finished with a game-high 14 points scored. Ammendola has not missed a PAT in 2017, going 13-for-13 through the Cowboys' first two contests.
Ammendola impressed on kickoff duty as well last Friday, as he kicked off eight times with three touchbacks. His directional kicking on the five non-touchback kickoffs helped limit USA's average starting field position to its own 23.6-yard line.
Oklahoma State returns to action Saturday when they travel to Pittsburgh for a showdown against Pitt. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. CT on ABC or ESPN2.
