STILLWATER — The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association released its men's and women's cross country preseason national rankings today, and both Oklahoma State teams made an appearance in the Top 25 to open 2017.
The Cowboys cracked the top 10 at No. 10 in the preseason poll after beginning last season at No. 11. They also hold the No. 1 spot in the Midwest Region – continuing a streak of 52-straight weeks in that position, the longest streak in the nation.
Big 12 Conference-rival Iowa State ranks right behind the Cowboys at No. 12 in the preliminary poll, and in-state rival Tulsa comes in at No. 20. Texas rounds out the list at No. 30, making three Big 12 squads ranked inside the top 30.
OSU's women will start the season ranked 21st and will return four of their five scoring runners from the Big 12 Championships last year. The Cowgirls are ranked third in the Midwest Region preseason poll behind Missouri and Minnesota.
Conference-rival Iowa State comes in at No. 26, and the West Virginia, Baylor and Texas women's teams all received votes in the preseason rankings.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls open their 2017 cross country campaigns on Sept. 1 in Stillwater when OSU hosts Oklahoma, Tulsa and Arkansas in the Cowboy Preview.
