Cowgirls Tabbed Sixth In Preseason Big 12 Poll

IRVING, Texas – Oklahoma State is the preseason pick by Big 12 Conference coaches to finish sixth in the league standings in 2017, it was announced by the conference office today.

In a vote of the league's head coaches, who were not allowed to select their own team, five-time defending conference champion and preseason national No. 1 West Virginia is the unanimous choice as the Big 12 favorite. Following the Mountaineers are Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Baylor. Up next are the Cowgirls, with TCU, Texas, Iowa State and Kansas State rounding out the 10-team list.

OSU returns eight starters from last year's 9-9-3 team that finished tied for fifth in the league with a 3-4-1 record and lost in the opening round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship at Colorado. Five of the Cowgirls' top six scorers from a year ago return this season.

The Cowgirls open 2017 with a preseason exhibition match at Missouri Saturday at 7 p.m. before kicking off the regular season with home matches against Loyola and UMKC on Aug. 18 and 20.
