Four Cowboys Named to Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team
July 12, 2017 | Cowboy Football
STILLWATER – The Big 12 Conference announced its 2017 Preseason All-Big 12 Football Team Wednesday, as Oklahoma State wide receiver James Washington, running back Justice Hill, offensive lineman Zachary Crabtree and safety Tre Flowers were all included on the team.
The Cowboys' three offensive selections are tied for the most of any single school on that side of the ball and James Washington was one of only three players who was a unanimous selection to the team, which is voted on by media representatives who cover the league.
Washington was also a first team selection on the 2016 All-Big 12 Team, while each of the other three Cowboys were honored on last year's second team.
Entering his senior season, Washington is ranked by Mel Kiper as the No. 1 senior receiver in the country and is listed as the best returning receiver in college football heading into 2017 by ESPN.com's Adam Rittenberg and by Athlon Sports. His 26 career receiving touchdowns mark the highest total among all active FBS players heading into 2017, and he leads all active receivers from Power Five conferences with 2,923 career receiving yards and 19.2 career yards per reception.
Hill was the 2016 FBS freshman rushing champion with 1,142 yards, which is a total that makes him Oklahoma State's all-time leading freshman rusher. That total also marked the fifth-most for a freshman in Big 12 Conference history. In addition to being the only OSU freshman to ever surpass 1,000 rushing yards in a season, Hill is the only freshman in school history to rush for 100 yards in six games and no other Cowboy freshman has done it more than three times.
One of the leading men for Hill's record-breaking season last year, Crabtree has long been a team leader and one of the better tackles in the Big 12. As an everyday starter on 10-win teams in both 2015 and 2016, he has 34 career starts to his credit entering his senior season. He was also the leader of an offensive line that paved the way for a substantial uptick in the running game over the course of the past two seasons.
Flowers is another senior who has been a productive safety over the course of his career. He has more career tackles than any current member of the team with 200 and he has developed into one of the Big 12's best returning safeties heading into the 2017 season. He was a second team All-Big 12 selection by the coaches last year and his seven pass break-ups led the team. He's been in the Cowboys' starting lineup since his freshman season.
The Cowboys open the 2017 campaign when they face Tulsa in Stillwater on Aug. 31.
