Edwards, Ferrante Earn Academic All-America Honors

AUSTIN, Texas – Oklahoma State had two women make the CoSIDA Track and Field and Cross Country Academic All-America team in First-Team honoree Kaela Edwards and Third-Team member Stephanie Ferrante, the organization announced Friday.
This marks the sixth time in school history that OSU has put two athletes on the Academic All-America list in the same sport, and the first time since 2008.
Edwards graduated from OSU in the spring with a 3.47 GPA for the year and degree in Marketing. Her accomplishments in the classroom mirrored her season on the track as she earned a first-team All-America honor indoors in the mile and won her first Big 12 title outdoors when she took the 1,500-meter crown at the conference championships on her graduation weekend.
Ferrante was a Big 12 champion in the distance medley relay indoors, and the biochemistry and molecular biology major moved up to the 800-meter run during the outdoor season where she ran a personal best 2:12.81 at the John McDonnell Invitational.
West Virginia was the only other Big 12 program to field two athletes on the list, both second-team members, and Kansas put one woman into the third-team.
Edwards' honor gives OSU 34 first-team Academic All-Americans, and the university now has 70 academic honors all-time with eight belonging to the Cowboy and Cowgirl track and field and cross country programs.
With these two honors, OSU has received three Academic All-America honors in three of the past four years. Kaylee Jensen picked up honors earlier this year for the women's basketball season.
