JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Oklahoma State's duo of Viktor Hovland and Kristoffer Ventura were both victorious in their final singles matches for Team Europe on Sunday at the Palmer Cup at Atlanta Athletic Club.
Despite the efforts of the OSU tandem, Europe fell to the American side, 19.5-11.5. The United States now leads the all-time series 11-9-1.
Hovland, a rising sophomore for the Cowboys, put Europe's first point of the day on the board with a 3-and-2 victory over Jimmy Stanger. Stanger took an early lead with eagle at No. 3. Hovland took the lead for good with eagle-birdie on Nos. 5 and 6.
A rising senior, Ventura put a European point on the board with a 2-and-1 triumph over Sam Burns. Ventura took 1-up leads thru Nos. 6, 8 and 13 and Burns thru No. 10 but both would equalize the following holes. Ventura won Nos. 16 and 17 to close out the match.
Hovland and Ventura were paired together for Friday's morning foursomes, falling, 6 and 5, to Stanger and John Coultas. The duo bounced back with a 1-up win over Coultas and Stanger during Friday afternoon's four-ball matches.
Saturday's singles action saw Hovland halve his match with Maverick McNealy, while Ventura fell to Coultas, 4 and 3.
