Ferrante, Edwards Earn Academic All-District Honors
May 25, 2017 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
GREENWOOD, Ind. – Two Cowgirls were named to the 2017 CoSIDA track and field Academic All-District team for district seven in senior Kaela Edwards and junior Stephanie Ferrante, the organization announced Thursday.
Both Cowgirls got it done on the track and in the classroom, with Edwards posting a 3.47 GPA for her final semester and Ferrante earning a 4.0 for the spring.
Ferrante, a biochemistry and molecular biology major, scored a Big 12 title in the distance medley relay in February and moved up to the 800-meter during the outdoor season, where she clocked a personal best 2:12.81 at the John McDonnell Invitational in April.
The honor for Edwards is another in a long list of accolades for the Cowgirl senior.
OSU's record holder for points at NCAA indoor championships graduated with a degree in marketing earlier this month and is competing in the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds this weekend for a third-straight trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Edwards took home two all-conference honors and her first Big 12 outdoor title on her graduation weekend, and leaves OSU with seven conference titles to her name.
Edwards competes in the 1,500-meter preliminary this afternoon. The top five finishers in each heat, plus the next four fastest times advance to the quarterfinal on Saturday.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected next month.
