Cowboys’ Quest For No. 11 Takes Them To Rich Harvest Farms

Cowboys Head To Illinois In Pursuit of No. 11
Oklahoma State will pursue its 11th NCAA title when play gets underway this week at the NCAA Championship at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill. The event will run May 26-May 31 and will consist of 72 holes of stroke play to determine the eight teams for the match play portion of the tournament as well as the individual champion.
OSU will serve as the event's No. 2 seed and will be grouped with top-seeded Southern California and No. 3 seed Vanderbilt for its first round. The trio will begin play on Friday at 12:05 p.m. on the 10th tee and their second round will get underway at 6:45 a.m. on Saturday on the No. 1 tee. After Sunday's third round, the 30-team field will be trimmed to the top 15 squads and top nine individuals not on an advancing team for Monday's fourth round. The top eight teams will then be placed into a match play bracket to determine the team champion.
The quarterfinal and semifinal matches will take place on Tuesday and will be followed by Wednesday's championship match at the par-72, 7,300-yard layout.
The Cowboy lineup will feature the same five players responsible for their two-shot victory at the NCAA Austin Regional on May 17. OSU's lineup will consist of senior Zachary Olsen, junior Kristoffer Ventura, sophomores Zach Bauchou and Hayden Wood as well as freshman Viktor Hovland.
Live scoring will be available at golfstat.com. Golf Channel will televise the action on Monday (3-7 p.m. CST), Tuesday (10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 3-7 p.m.) and Wednesday (3-7 p.m.).
OSU In NCAA Play
OSU has won 10 NCAA titles and has produced eight individual national champions. The Cowboys last national title came in 2006 under the direction of Mike McGraw. That same year also resulted in OSU's most recent medalist at the event in Jonathan Moore. OSU's first NCAA crown came in 1963 under the guidance of Labron Harris. Former coach and current OSU athletics director Mike Holder captured eight titles, winning in 1976, 1978, 1980, 1983, 1987, 1991, 1995 and 2000.
Additionally, the Cowboys have produced 17 runner-up finishes after placing second in 2014 at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
Earl Moeller was OSU's first individual champion in 1953 and was followed by Grier Jones in 1968. David Edwards won in 1978 and was followed by Scott Verplank, Brian Watts an E.J. Pfister, who won consecutively from 1986-88. Charles Howell won in record-setting fashion in 2000 and was the program's seventh national champion. Jonathan Moore's individual title came in 2006.

Oklahoma State's men's golf team posted an 11-over 291 during its fourth round at the NCAA Championship to tie for 10th place at Eugene Country Club.
The Cowboys finished with a 30-over total of 1,150 at the par-70, 7,014-yard to tie California and miss advancing to the match play bracket by six shots. Texas finished first at 1,134 after finishing with a 287. The Longhorns were followed by Illinois, LSU and Southern California. Vanderbilt, Oregon, South Carolina and Oklahoma rounded out the eight squads advancing to match play.
Oregon's Aaron Wise closed with a 71 during his fourth round to finish at 5-under 275 and wrap up medalist honors.
Senior Jordan Niebrugge closed out his Cowboy career with his second consecutive 69 to move into a tie for 17th place at 285. Niebrugge went out in 1-under 33 with eight consecutive pars before wrapping up his outward nine with a birdie at the 18th. He moved to 3-under for the day with birdies at Nos. 2 and 4 before carding a double bogey at the seventh. After posting his fourth birdie of the day at the eighth, he finished with a bogey at the ninth for his 1-under total.
Sophomore Stratton Nolen signed for a 73 to finish tied for 26th place at 287, while classmate Kristoffer Ventura carded a 76 to finish at 291 and tied for 51st place. Sophomore Brendon Jelley posted his second 73 in a row to finish at 293 and tied for 60th place. Sophomore Sam Stevens' 79 tied him for 66th place at 294.
