OKLAHOMA CITY – The Bedlam Series between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will be just two games this season due to weather altering the schedule.
Â
The Cowboys took a 5-2 lead in today's opener, but it was postponed after 4 ½ innings of play following a weather delay of over four hours; that game will be resumed and completed beginning at 4:35 p.m. Saturday with the series finale scheduled for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch.
Â
Due to Kansas State sweeping a doubleheader at Baylor today, OSU will need to win both games against the Sooners Saturday to qualify for next week's Big 12 Conference Championship. The Cowboys are 24-25 overall and 6-14 in league play.
Â
In Friday's contest, OSU took a 1-0 in the top of the first when Garrett McCain, who doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch, scored on what proved to be a double steal following a failed pickoff attempt by the Sooners. Garrett Benge made a great slide to avoid a tag at second base as McCain scored.
Â
OU answered with two runs off Tyler Buffett in the fourth. Austin O'Brien tied the game with an RBI double, and two batters later, a two-out RBI single by Ben Hollas, the Sooners' third hit of the inning, gave OU a 2-1 advantage.
Â
OSU quickly erased the deficit, however, regaining the lead with a three-run rally in its next at bat. With Cowboys on first and second following a pair of walks, Garrett Benge delivered an RBI single to tie the score before another walk, this one to Colin Simpson, loaded the bases with one out. Up next, Ryan Sluder brought home the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice before a two-out, two-RBI double off the bat of Cade Cabbiness pushed the lead to 5-2.
